Leadership
Developing the Next Generation of Leaders
Leadership is an integral part of who we are here at P.S. 254. We want our students to be leaders who believe in themselves and who are positive role models for others.
It is our goal to develop student leaders by empowering them with skills and knowledge to manage their lives academically and emotionally.
Celebrating the Legacy of Rosa Parks
Our name is The Rosa Parks School, and her legacy lives on in our programs and philosophy. Her strength, courage, and integrity are taught here at The Rosa Parks School on a daily basis. Having Rosa as our namesake is how our culture of leadership began. We teach our students to stand up for what is right even if they are standing alone. We teach them that an education will help them be strong, independent, and informed citizens in the 21st Century world. Every member of our school community and every student that graduates from our school will always hold a piece of Rosa Parks’ message in their hearts. She is a true American hero.

Leader in Me
We are proud to be a Franklin Covey Leader in Me school. Based on the popular book 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, Leader in Me introduces students to practices that will help them be successful in school and beyond. Leader in Me empowers students with success skills they will carry with them for life. Learn more about Leader in Me.
Student Council
P.S. 254 has an active Student Council. A representative is chosen from each fifth-grade class to run for a position. The election is held simultaneously with U.S. elections. The candidates are given an opportunity to write speeches and present their ideas to the student body. Every child gets an opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice. The student council gets to experience leadership through presenting their ideas and those of their peers to the administration.
Social-Emotional Learning
We are committed to providing a safe, supportive learning environment for all students and nurturing positive peer relationships. We have partnered with Sandford Harmony and Restorative Circles for Character Education and Social-Emotional Learning. In addition, we use a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) model with a point system to promote positive behaviors.
Philanthropy
At P.S. 254 we believe in giving back. We understand the importance of helping those who are less fortunate or those in need. Over the years we have raised hundreds of dollars for people in our community, country and around the world.
